Hi there, my name is Dave, and I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with a profound commitment to exploring the intricacies of your past experiences and the inner workings of your mind. By delving into these aspects, we can identify blind spots in your life, which often arise when our minds misinterpret reality, especially during times of significant stress, or when influential individuals in our lives inadvertently contribute to this misperception. These distortions frequently lead to various forms of suffering in our present day. My primary goal is to create a succinct mental map of how your mind operates and how it arrived at its current state, paving the way for transformative change.
I obtained my master's degree in counseling psychology from the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology in 2008. Following my studies, I took a brief hiatus to indulge in my hobby of mixology, during which I had the privilege of working for a James Beard award-winning bar. In 2013, I returned to my chosen profession and became state licensed as a mental health therapist. Since then, I have been dedicated to the private practice sector, offering my expertise in both Illinois and New York.
My passion for understanding intricate systems extends beyond my professional endeavors, encompassing various aspects of life, such as the art of crafting the perfect shot of espresso, exploring philosophical worldviews, mastering strategy board games, and comprehending family dynamics. This innate curiosity has led me to explore multiple therapeutic approaches, drawing upon the strengths of each to create a customized approach for my clients. Among the influential figures in my professional development, the late Dr. David Schnarch holds a special place. I have attended multiple trainings by him and have undergone extensive personal therapy with practitioners trained in his groundbreaking "Crucible Neurobiological Therapy" approach. Many aspects of my therapeutic approach are influenced by his pioneering work, complemented by elements from cognitive behavioral therapy and family systems therapy.
In my practice, I possess a deep understanding of trauma and have successfully provided therapy to individuals and couples alike. Nevertheless, I firmly adhere to the wisdom of the esteemed Murray Bowen, who emphasized that a therapist can only guide others through challenges they have personally faced and overcome themselves. Consequently, I continuously engage in my own growth and self-discovery to enhance my ability to support my clients effectively.
Thank you for considering my services. I look forward to the possibility of working with you on your journey toward greater clarity, healing, and personal growth.
